Muhasiba

Muhasiba is a daily Islamic self-reflection app built on the practice of muhasaba, self-accounting. You track your good and bad deeds across five categories, build streaks, watch your habits over time, and reflect with a daily saying. It is bilingual throughout, with an English line and a secondary line in Urdu or Persian.

Yes. Muhasiba is free to use, there is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no card required. There are no ads and no third-party tracking.

English is always the primary line, and you can pick اردو (Urdu, shown in Nastaliq) or فارسی (Persian) as your secondary language. Every bilingual label across the app honours your choice. Administrators can also add new languages and translate the interface at runtime, so the list can grow without an app update.

Deeds are grouped as Obligatory, Recommended, Forbidden, Permissible, and Disliked. For good deeds, marking Done is the success state. For things to avoid (Forbidden and Disliked), the buttons flip, so the green action reads "Avoided" and the red one reads "Did it", because avoiding the bad deed is the win.

You set your sect (Shia, Barelvi, Deobandi, Ahl al-Hadith, or All) in Settings, and the dashboard only shows the deeds relevant to it. Deeds are also context-aware, they appear based on the weekday, the prayer window, and the Hijri calendar, so seasonal and weekly acts of worship show up exactly when they apply.

Enable a streak on any deed and set a rule, a period (daily, weekly, or monthly), a target number of completions per period, and a grace allowance for missed periods. Streaks are recomputed automatically on the server every time you mark a deed, so your current and best counts are always up to date when you open Reports.

Your personal deed logs are protected by Postgres Row Level Security, so other users can never see them, this is enforced in the database, not just the app. Administrators manage shared content (deeds, sayings, languages) and see aggregate analytics, but not your individual reflections.

Muhasiba is distributed as a direct Android APK, download it from this page and allow "Install from unknown sources". The same download link always serves the latest build, and the app prompts you in-app when a newer version is available. An iOS build is in preparation; the app is built on a shared codebase, so the experience will match.
